phpFox v5 Security Update – PHP Runtime Upgrade Guide

phpFox Security Update: Important PHP Runtime Upgrade Instructions

At phpFox, keeping our platform secure and reliable for customers remains a top priority.

Following recently disclosed PHP security vulnerabilities, phpFox has taken the necessary steps to address the potential security risks and ensure continued protection for websites running phpFox v5.

Customers using phpFox v5.2.0 or later are advised to review the following instructions and apply the appropriate updates based on their hosting environment.

Understanding the Security Issue

The security concerns are related to vulnerabilities identified in the PHP runtime environment.

For technical details, please refer to the official PHP security advisories:

phpFox has addressed this issue and recommends that customers update their PHP runtime environment to ensure their websites remain protected.

How to Apply the Security Update

The required action depends on how your phpFox website is hosted.

phpFox-Hosted Websites

For customers using phpFox Hosting Services, no manual action is required.

The phpFox team is updating the PHP runtime environment across its managed hosting infrastructure to address the identified security vulnerabilities.

phpFox will handle these updates directly.

Self-Hosted Websites Using Docker

If your phpFox website is deployed in a Docker environment, please pull the latest Docker images and restart your containers to apply the updated runtime.

Step 1: Pull the latest Docker images

docker compose pull

Step 2: Restart the Docker containers

docker compose down && docker compose up -d

These commands will retrieve the latest configured Docker images and recreate the containers with the updated environment.

We recommend performing the update during a scheduled maintenance window to minimize potential service interruptions.

Self-Hosted Websites Without Docker

For customers running phpFox on a self-managed server without Docker, please update your PHP runtime environment to PHP 8.3.36.

Contact your hosting provider or server administrator if assistance is required.

After completing the update, verify that your website and its core functionalities are operating as expected.

Keeping Your phpFox Website Secure

Regular security updates are essential to maintaining a stable and secure online community.

We strongly encourage all customers running phpFox v5.2.0 or later to follow the instructions above and ensure their hosting environments are updated accordingly.

If you have any questions or need assistance with the update process, please contact the phpFox Support Team.

We appreciate your continued trust in phpFox and remain committed to providing a secure and reliable community platform.
