This inFocus will deal with how to set up a Music website using phpFox and also give suggestions on some third party Add-ons to get when creating this site. This won't be a short article. You might want to bookmark it so you can keep referring to it as you set up your site.
In order to allow members to upload music on your site, you need to set up the user group permissions, music settings, and music genres for your site.
First, we set the User Group Permissions:
AdminCP >> Users >> Manage User Groups
Click to the left of the user group to change the settings for and select, Manage User Settings
In the left column, find Music and click it. On the right you will see the settings you can set for the music module for the User Group Permissions.
To allow members to upload music, set to yes:
Can upload music?
If you want them to be able to edit their albums, set to yes:
Can edit own albums?
If you want them to be able to delete their music, set to yes:
Can delete own track?
Look down through the settings and set them the way you want for each user group.
Pay attention to:
Maximum file size of songs uploaded. As this is the size you are allowing members to load to your server. This is also controlled by your settings in the php.ini file or by your server administrators as to what is the largest size file able to be loaded to your server.
There is a tutorial for how to change the php.ini settings to allow for larger sizes but you still need to ensure it is allowed by your server hosting company, especially if you are on shared hosting.
Once you have the settings for the user group permissions, you might want to create or edit your music genres. To do this, go to
AdminCP >> Modules >> Music >> Add Genres or
AdminCP >> Modules >> Music >> Manage Genres (if you need to edit any genres)
To edit the default genres, you would have selected Manage Genres and you will see the list of Genres.
To change the genre name, click on the one to change and you can then Edit it. Save it when done.
To delete a genre, click in the box next to the genre name and at the bottom of the screen is a delete button.
If you want to change the title of the Music menu to something else, let's say Tunes, here's how we will do this:
AdminCP >> Extensions >> Phrase Manager and search for Music. You will then see all of the phrases that are showing up with music in them. We will change these but you can just change the ones members will see or you can change them all, as that's up to you. To change them, in the right column you would change Music to Tunes for wherever you see it. When you are done with one full page of edits, click Save All at the bottom right of the page and go to page 2 and repeat. Do this for however many pages are showing up from the search.
One thing that won't change is the url, it will still show music. If you want to change it, you could use this free add on, v3 url rewrite manager .
There might be some modules you won't need active for your music site. To manage these go to AdminCP >> Extensions >> Manage Modules
- To the right of the modules you will see green or red dots. Red indicates they are inactive and green indicates they are active. Click a green dot to change the module to inactive. You could also uninstall the modules by clicking to the left of the module and selecting to Uninstall it. You cannot uninstall or deactivate Core modules (found at the top of the modules).
- Apps module is a bit different. If you don't want to see the Apps menu tab, deactivate it from your menu manager (AdminCP >> CMS >> Manage Menus) by clicking the checkbox in the Active column and then Update.
After doing all of the above, you will want to test things as a member for each user group to ensure you have the user group settings done the way you want them per user group.
