Social Networking

We have received some mails from both potential customers as well as from phpFox clients in regards to how to make money with your phpFox sites. Here are some ideas to help you monetize your social networking site:

User-targeted site advertisement

There are several ways in making money from your social networking site. One of the major methods is to create ads on your site, from Google AdSense or by someone sponsoring an ad space on your site to get your members attention.

With the new phpFox version (v2) you can create ads based on:
  • clicks
  • impressions
  • user group/membership type
  • location
  • gender
  • age
  • module placed ad(which module you want the ad to show on)

You can located your ads or banners on different blocks on your site, for example; you can have an ad at the top right of your site or at the very bottom by easily choosing this in a setting. To choose the block location you go to your AdminCP and by a few clicks you've targeted your ads with your preference!

Read this tutorial on how to create an ad.

Below are some images to show you how the Ad Manager looks like(in case you do not have a phpFox license) Feel free to click on the images to view them in a higher resolution.:

We are pleased to announce that phpFox2 RC4 (Release Candidate 4) has been released for public testing.

RC4 introduces mainly fixes in preparation for the stable release and the completed default language package (English U.S.).

With the completion of the default language package this will now allow the product to be translated into other languages.

RC4 was scheduled to be our final RC version before hitting our stable release, which we estimated was going to be released on November 4, 2009; however we feel the product is not ready and do not want to risk rushing and releasing an unstable product to only thereafter release patches. We are pushing back the final stable release date to December 23, 2009. Every Wednesday until that date we will be releasing a new RC version so clients who are already running phpFox v2 for their live sites will be up-to-date with all the latest bug fixes.

To make up for the delay we will develop 3 new features that will work similar to how it works on Facebook. These features include...
1) Mutual friends block on a users profile.
2) Friends suggestions within the sites dashboard.
3) Like/Unlike system on news feeds.

On November 4th, RC6 will be released and this version will be fully supported by our official support team. RC4 is already supported in terms of install/upgrade issues and once we reach RC6 it will be fully supported.

For anyone that will have their Support & Upgrade RenewalӔ run out before stable release of phpFox2 will not have to worry about upgrading to phpFox2 and having to extend their Support & Upgrade RenewalӔ package. Due to the recent delay every valid license holder can download phpFox2 free of charge on its final stable release date and any updates from that day and 30 days after.

MySpace 2.0 Profiles
Posted October 26, 2008 by Raymond Benc in Social Networking

I was following up on Techcrunch and saw the article about MySpace 2.0 profiles. Its currently beta and can be tested if you visit MySpace Canada. Once you have signed in directly to MySpace Canada you should find a link in your Home page where you can upgrade your profile to test out the new changes.

Give it a try and let us know what you think of the new layout. We are still at a very early stage of v2 so its still easy to make changes, anything you see interesting with the new MySpace layout let us know.
